Abstract

One of the Arabic language teaching skills is speaking skills (Maharah Kalam). The importance of speaking skills can be seen from the importance of language itself in human life. Therefore, speaking skills are the most important component in learning a language. It is no wonder that many educational institutions pay special attention to teaching Arabic speaking skills to their students. The thing that must be considered in addition to teaching this skill is the measurement of students' abilities using tests. This paper aims to find out the Arabic speaking skills test for beginners as a measurement of each individual's ability. This research uses a descriptive qualitative method with a form of literature study in collecting its data. The results of this study indicate that the test is one of the tools to measure students' abilities in order to know the extent of students' mastery and their fluency in speaking using correct Arabic. The measurement of speaking ability in its implementation requires individual tests, so it requires a long time. Therefore, a teacher must give enough space in the implementation of this test so that it can determine the ability of his students in speaking. Speaking skills consist of several branch skills, so tests can be conducted on one or several branches of speaking skills. The test also depends on the level of the student, looking at the characteristics of teaching speaking skills at that level. The speaking skills test for the beginner level includes several aspects namely word pronunciation, vocabulary mastery, comprehension, and speaking fluency.
