Abstract

Arabic speaking skill is an important component in carrying out the language's function, namely as a communication tool. Various methods and techniques were used to improve speaking ability (Maharah al-Kalam), including the Drill technique. The use of the Drill technique in this research was to improve the maharah al-kalam abilities of new students of the Arabic language education program at Kiai Abdullah Faqih Gresik University who were known to be still below average. This research aims to improve speaking skills (maharah al-Kalam) for new students at Kiai Abdullah Faqih University. This research used a qualitative approach with the type of classroom action research. Data analysis used data reduction, data display/presentation and drawing conclusions. The research results from the first cycle showed that the average percentage of results did not reach the predetermined target, namely 25%. Then, in the second cycle, the average percentage result reached 62.5%. In this case it could be said that the use of the Drill technique can improve speaking skills for new students at Kiai Abdullah Faqih University with an average percentage increase from the first cycle to the second cycle of 81.25%.
