The Effectiveness of Word Ladder as Learning Media to Increase Vocabulary Skill in Primary School

Nowadays technology is a tool to improve learning systems, especially in terms of language. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the word ladder application as a learning medium to improve English vocabulary. The research methodology used in this study is mixed methods (qualitative and quantitative designs). In this study were six elementary school students. Respondents were selected purposively based on the students' experience in applying the word ladder to increase the English vocabulary of the participants. In collecting data, researchers used questionnaires and interviews as research instruments. The objective items are characteristic of students' attractiveness in using the word ladder challenge, their expectations, improvement of English skills, assessment and level of confidence after using the application. This study shows that 60% of respondents stated that they were more interested in learning English by using the word ladder application to help them improve their English skills. schools, who stated that their English skills improved by 50% after using the app. out of 20 students there were 8 children (40%) stated that their English skills, especially their vocabulary, had improved more after using the application. Furthermore, 50% of respondents stated that the word ladder was useful in improving English in participants who, with 8 out of 20 participants saying that their level of confidence in English was on a scale of 10 out of 10 after using the application.
